Song Zhiyong Leads a Delegation to Attend the 2nd Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Civil Aviation
The 2nd Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Civil Aviation was held on September 11-12 in New Delhi, India. Song Zhiyong, CAAC Administrator and head of the Chinese delegation, delivered a speech at the conference which was attended by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano. The conference discussed and adopted the Delhi Declaration and reaffirmed the continued implementation of the Beijing Declaration. It further expressed the shared concern of the Asia-Pacific countries in 10 aspects, including aviation safety, air navigation, facilitation, gender equality, green development, etc. and enhanced willingness in the region to strengthen cooperation and development in civil aviation.
The Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Civil Aviation is the highest-level international conference on civil aviation affairs in the Asia-Pacific region. Against the backdrop of the 80th anniversary of the signing of the Convention on International Civil Aviation and the establishment of ICAO, the conference was attended by more than 160 delegates from 29 ICAO member states in the Asia-Pacific region, the President of the ICAO Council, and heads of six international organizations in the industry, including the International Air Transport Association, etc. Delegates were deeply engaged in discussions on topics of civil aviation development in Asia-Pacific region, such as aviation safety and air navigation.
During the conference, Song Zhiyong had working-level exchanges with President Sciacchitano of the ICAO Council and Regional Director Ma Tao for ICAO's Asia and Pacific (APAC) Office as well as in-depth exchange of views with delegates from India, Japan, Korea and the International Air Transport Association on strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation in civil aviation and issues of mutual interest. While transferring in Hong Kong, Song Zhiyong also met with the heads of the Transport and Logistics Bureau and Civil Aviation Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and made site visits to Hong Kong International Airport and AVIC Limited.
The 1st Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Civil Aviation was held in Beijing in January 2018 with the adoption of the Beijing Declaration.
